Local Publicity
Fortunately over the years I have established a relationship with two local Arts reporters. My current show has been publicized weekly for the past month in the "Arts and More" section of the town newspaper ( The Swampscott Reporter) with show information and a brief description posted every Thursday, the day the paper is printed. I also was interviewed by the Arts reporter for the online paper, the Swampscott Patch.
Deahn Berrini Leblang came to the show, took photos, and yesterday I was the feature story in the Sunday column of local culture.
Swampscott Patch
It's been great getting all the publicity and this week I will be preparing my encaustic panels for Saturday's demo. I want to have plenty of choices and backup plans in case the wax and I aren't in sync. Just like I always tell my students, the worst thing that can happen is the painting does not turn out the way I envisioned it, but I will still be sharing the process which is really what it's all about.

What a great photo! It really shows the scale of your work. Seeing the images alone on your site, I could not visualize them in their actual size. I think it is wonderful that you are getting so much publicity. That's the key to success.
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful article, Robin, with great photographs. I'm betting you and the wax will be in sych Saturday. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteEva, it really is difficult to view work online because size does NOT translate well. I will let you know if all this publicity made a difference after Saturday.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Hallie... I think all that's left for me to do to guarantee synchronicity is prepare mentally, and I have all week to do that. I may have to put together a cookie platter too, that's what I woke up thinking about this morning!
You give something rather unique to the art community, Robin, and I am not surprised that you were featured in the paper. Those paintings/encaustic pieces behind you are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSherry, creating new work is only one part of success, sharing it with others is just as important. Thanks for your continued support.
ReplyDeleteGreat article, Robin! Congratulations on the well-deserved publicity. I love the photo of you with both incarnations of Spring Pathway. It's cool being able to see them side-by-side like that. Good luck with the demo. I'm sure the results will be wonderful and the cookies will be delicious.

Don, the entire show is setup with the photo next to the encaustic next to the watercolor. It really makes for an interesting contrast and comparison. Sorry you won't be here for some cookie tasting - my daughter and her friends will be elves in the kitchen Friday night!
