My Mental Vacation

This week the public schools are off for spring break. New England public schools always take the week of Patriots Day off (a New England only holiday), and I decided to take a mental vacation with my paints.

"Sea of Clouds", 26" x 41" watercolor

I used my last sheet of jumbo size watercolor paper and fortunately I can use a frame I recently purchased specifically for this size work. I had done an abstract Treescape in January thinking it would be a new art  direction and decided to frame it. Actually, it led me into the chakra series of abstract paintings I just completed. What I don't like is the lack of structure in this first treescape piece and the "Sea of Clouds" brings to me the warm glow of sunrise. Isn't it terrible how fickle I am - my favorite painting is usually the one I just finished.

    1. Thanks. My goal was to paint the yellow sky with clouds and the feeling of lightness, plus this was one of those paintings that flowed from beginning to end.

  2. Sunrise is so very inspiring and this is a neat piece you created Robin.. I think being fickle is good in the sense that new avenues for creatvity keep opening in front of your mental eyes :-)

    1. I have to admit, padmaja, completing the chakra series of treescapes (my previous post) educated me, and I felt refreshed and "wide open" when I painted this.

  3. Another beauty, Robin. I am more and more beginning to enjoy my own art. It is a new feeling for me, though admittedly it still isn't always an immediate thing or an every time thing.

I love the mists at the base of these mountains and that yellow...! Beautiful! I also like that I can see some trees in the foreground, even though they are distant.

    1. It doesn't have to be every painting is a success, which usually effects our enjoyment! Painting the mist/clouds successfully was a priority with this piece, thanks.

  4. I would NEVER consider you fickle in any sense of the word! I love the Treescape- the values and shapes are spectacular. And I love your latest Sea of Clouds. It's mysterious and lovely. It makes a wonderful header for your blog too!
