Influences, good and bad

Please let the election arrive already and finally put an end to all of the political unrest, ridiculous commercials, and horrible economic news. It's definitely taken a toll on my creative juices. Facebook posts have me cringing and it feels like people have lost all respect to personal choices and privacy. It also feels like there are less bloggers posting less frequently (myself included). This election can't end soon enough.

Fortunately, I have another encaustic workshop planned for this Sunday. Last week I had fun demonstrating a texture technique by building up layers of wax in a more abstract way.

I also used a leaf to create imprints, added inlay details, then scraped away to smooth the surface.

There were only 4 people in the workshop which allowed for everyone to get plenty of individualized help. It should be the same group this Sunday.

The gallery and I are discussing the possibility of me teaching another workshop in January. Hopefully by then there will be less negative economic and political energy.

  1. Whatever kind of energy you feel around you, your art keeps you grounded, that is the art magic! Lovely leaf impressions and phenomenal textures in the first one!

    1. So true, padmaja... art has always been my meditation (and mental health!)

  2. Quite honestly I cannot believe the popularity of Facebook. I hated it over there and deactivated my account a couple of years ago. I much prefer blogging. Maybe not as wide an audience but I doubt I had 73 friends on FB either. Love the new textures you've created here. I thought I was looking at a close-up of cantaloupe! LOL

    1. Ever since facebook went public the site has changed and is more commercial. I am less interested in using it but the free PR benefits outweigh the negativity.

    2. I love the textures in the top photos--it's like all those opinions that are being expressed about the candidates. Maybe smoothness will return after the elections. I don't believe FB posters have any influence, and I'm always happy when I see that they're ignored (no "likes" or comments).

I sometimes make the mistake of reading comments following news stories (election and otherwise) and can't believe the ugliness. Civility has disappeared.

  3. I think times are tough for everyone right now, Hallie, and maybe that's why there is such a lack of civility and desperation tied to the election. Or maybe its because I am noticing more in my old age. I really will enjoy teaching this weekend, I am thankful to have art in my life.
