work still in progress

Spring Pathway, 20 x 16, encaustic image transfer

I wish I had more time today to take off color in the foreground and build up in the areas where I want more dimensionality. I still feel like I need to create a way to travel through the path without confusion. I am not sure if I want to add details with oil pastel or just simplify by removing some of the pigmented wax... so maybe this is a good time to stop.

  1. I love what you've already done with this. I really like the log that's been cut with the 'shadow' of its former self across the pathway. It's a great metaphor of clearing out the obstacles in life to open up the pathway we choose... (my two-cents, anyway)

  2. Robin my vote would be to travel the path by removing some of the pigment from it - I think it would be a nice complement to the light tree trunks, which give the piece a sort of ethereal quality.

  3. Don, I love the idea that the shadow of the cut tree is a metaphor, but I think Deborah's suggestion (removing some of pigment in the path) sits better with my need to eliminate confusion. I may also add some layers of wax medium in order to make the path more dimensional and inviting (the Robert Frost poem comes to mind). Stay tuned, finishing this work will be the highlight of my day!
