Happy Thanksgiving!

My Thanksgiving holiday usually means a trip to Chicago to spend a few days with my mother and brothers and their families. When my adult children can join me every other year, it's a more meaningful holiday, and I am always grateful.

I am starting to plan my move back from the east coast to the Windy City, and after having spent 23 years living in New England it will feel good to move back to my roots. One of the biggest challenges I will face is networking and re-establishing myself in the art communities. It's been too distant to grasp so far and I still have plenty of time with an estimate move date planned for the summer of 2013. My art has always been inspired by my surroundings and I wonder if the cityscape will become a new, important inspiration. I am already thinking about streets, angles, grids, and geometry.

These encaustic paintings (medieval walled cities but city inspiration nonetheless!) could be a precursor of what's to come -

Yesterday we managed to make time to eat out, shop, and eat out again! The holiday decorations are always so beautiful.

Today will be a big, festive, extended family get together and I am so grateful that we are able to do this.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. What are you grateful for?

  1. Wow! Chicago is a wonderful art area! I know you will do great there. The weather would be a major problem for me, but as a New Englander you should be able to deal with it with ease.
As for me I'm grateful for every new day and the wonderful people in my real and cyber world. Happy Thanksgiving!

  2. Hope you had a nice holiday, Eva. The weather gets a bad rap here, it really is milder than New England. Time for my holiday festivities to begin!

  3. How exciting--and you have lots of time to plan the move. There is something comforting about returning to roots--you will view the old things with seasoned eyes and appreciation.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

  5. Sounds like you are having a wonderful holiday weekend! I am excited to know you are moving back to the Windy City area. I live in IL, though about 80 miles west of Chi-town. Still, it will be good to know that maybe sometime we can meet and I can actually see how you do this in person!

  7. Nice post, Robin! I'm glad you're having a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. There is something about our roots that always seem to beckon us home - even if it's just for a visit. It sounds to me that your creative juices are already pulling you in a new direction. I'll be watching to see if cityscapes and townscapes enter into your work even before your move.

  8. Happy belated Thanksgiving, Don. I am hoping I do start painting more geometrically inspired "scapes" too. Thanks.

  10. Kelly, you know better than I how math and art can compliment wonderfully. And when I am there you will have a reason to visit!
