Rangeley, Maine

"North of Rangeley"
18 x 24
watercolor on paper

Living in New England for the past 24 years has allowed me to travel to some of the most beautiful places, all of which have been inspirational to me. After yesterday's class, I was able to finish working on the demo today. There is so much natural beauty, from rocky coastlines, mountain ranges and rolling meadows. I forget how beautiful it is until I take the time to paint.

  1. Beautiful--I can see for miles and miles. You're right--we don't really look at things until we start painting.

    1. That's what it feels like to be in Rangeley, you can see for miles and miles, into the Canadian Rockies.

  2. Painting nature itself is a blessing, the enjoyment doubles, the nuances of the creation is felt at each step and the final moment of finishing the piece sums up the experience. This is a very beautiful scene you painted well Robin!

    1. After I made this blog post I almost changed what I said about how beautiful a place Rangeley is because I was afraid I did not do it justice in this painting. The nuances of the creation are really the most important part, thanks for reminding me.

  3. Such a beautiful painting, Robin. The good thing about an artist is that they always can see the beauty in any surrounding. Hopefully you will see new beauty when you move here.

    1. So true Sherry, and I can't imagine what will become new inspiration when I am living in the city. Maybe I will discover organic qualities when I see tall concrete buildings!

  5. If I remember Katharine, you are on the coast, breathtaking rocky shoreline and all. I keep painting but now bounce back and forth between watercolor and encaustic. Making art never gets old.
